The 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris saw Nigerian star Ademola Lookman finish in 14th place, marking a significant achievement as the only African player on the 30-man shortlist and the second-highest-rated Serie A player, behind Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan.

His placement inspired jubilant reactions from Nigerian fans, who took to social media to congratulate Lookman and playfully taunt Ghanaian fans, highlighting the deep-rooted rivalry between the two countries.

Manchester City’s Rodri won the Ballon d’Or, edging out Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham, following his impressive performances for both club and country.

Lookman’s achievements, including his impactful AFCON performances and Europa League success with Atalanta, make him a leading contender for the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award.

His stellar season included 11 goals and seven assists in Serie A, and he made history by scoring a hat-trick in a European final, solidifying his reputation on the international stage.
