The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has issued a strong rebuttal to recent claims made by the Niger State House of Assembly regarding an alleged takeover of a military training area in Kotangora Local Government Area by terrorists.
The military categorically asserts that these allegations are unfounded and do not reflect the current situation on the ground.
In a press statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters emphasised that while the Nigerian Army has encountered terrorists in the region, no part of the military training area has been compromised.
“No inch of the training area has been ceded to the terrorist. Indeed, troops constantly eliminate the threat posed by terrorists crisscrossing the vast area. Our clearance operations in the area have denied the terrorists freedom of action,” he stated.

General Buba further clarified that the Nigerian Armed Forces are committed to counterterrorism operations, particularly in Niger State.
He urged the public and media to refrain from mischaracterising these threats, noting that referring to them by any other name undermines the seriousness of the situation.
According to the statement, the military is closely coordinating with the Niger State government to enhance security and ensure safety for residents. Additionally, troops remain relentless in their operations to eliminate terrorist threats across the region.
