APC Records Landslide Victory in Cross River LG Polls

The candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been declared winners of the eighteen chairmanship seats at the just concluded local government area election in Cross River State, southern Nigeria.

Also declared winners of all the 196 councillorship positions across the eighteen local government areas were candidates of the All Progressives Congress.

The chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), Dr. Ekong Boco declared the results of each local government area on Sunday and presented the elected chairmen with Certificates of Return.

Level playing ground

Dr. Boco, who announced the results in the presence of political parties representatives including the State APC chairman, Mr. Alphonsus Eba, stated, “the commission ensured that the contest was free, fair and transparent by providing a level playing ground for the political parties.”

The CROSIEC chairman advised the winners to extend a hand of fellowship to others contestants in the spirit of love, unity and peace.

He urged “I congratulate you all for emerging victorious. I want to plead with you carry your brothers and sisters along. We are of the same state.

“We expect that in return for being elected, you will all serve the people diligently and well,” he further urged.

Intensive campaign
In reaction to the results announced, the APC chairman, Mr. Eba expressed joy that the hard work and intensive campaign yielded the much expected victory.

“I can tell you that this was the freest and fairest process we have had since inception of democratic governance since 1999. It became a very clear thing that we went to the field very united and strong, which has translated to what we have witnessed today,” Eba stated.

According to him, “this all round victory tells us that APC is a very united family in Cross River State. It tells us that the governor is doing so well and it tells us that the people are also with us.”

In a brief remark, the Chief of Staff to the Cross River State governor, Mr. Emmanuel Ironbar congratulated newly elected chairmen and councillors for the feat achieved.

Ironbar, who noted that the victory of APC across the state indicated the trust and support the People at the grassroots have for Governor Otu’s People First agenda, urged the chairmen to hit the ground running.

He said, “I am happy that all the APC candidates emerged victorious. I urge them not to delay in joining the transformational train of our governor in delivering the dividends of democracy to our people.

“They should focus on implementing programmes and projects in line with the vision of this administration. Their resources should be properly channelled to meet the yearnings and aspirations of our people at the grassroots,” he insisted.

Out of the 18 local government chairmen, three women emerged as chairpersons for Bekwara, Boki and Ikom local government areas.
