The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State is gearing up to ensure smooth traffic flow, reduce road crashes, and create a safer motoring environment during the ‘ember’ months.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, Sector Commander Joyce Alexander detailed the measures being taken as part of the 2024 Ember Months sensitisation campaign themed “Speak up against dangerous driving: Crashes kill more passengers than Drivers.”

Key initiatives include the establishment of mobile courts, transit camps, and towing vehicles strategically stationed across the state. These mobile courts serve as cautionary measures for traffic violators rather than for witch-hunting or revenue generation.

Alexander emphasized the importance of the measures, particularly at the notorious Niger bridge, a major entry point to Anambra State. Mobile courts will be set up at the Onitsha end while public enlightenment will be conducted at the Asaba end to ensure motorists drive with caution.

Operatives and special marshals will be deployed across the state for traffic control and enforcement, with transit camps set up for rapid response to obstructions, rescue operations, and emergencies.

The FRSC commander also urged passengers to speak up against dangerous driving and report reckless drivers to the nearest FRSC station for swift action.

Alexander emphasised the importance of prioritising safety over convenience, urging passengers to prioritise their well-being and report any concerns to ensure a safer motoring environment.
