Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid has joined the pursuit of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, with the reigning UEFA Champions League titleholders eyeing him as a potential replacement for Vinicius Junior. Lookman, who has excelled at Atalanta since his €9.35 million transfer from RB Leipzig in 2022, has recorded 39 goals and 23 assists across 90 appearances and is attracting significant interest from top European clubs.

The 27-year-old was close to a move to Paris Saint-Germain last summer, reaching a personal agreement with the French club. In the previous season, Lookman scored 17 goals and registered 10 assists in 45 matches, highlighted by a hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen that helped Atalanta secure the trophy. He continues to impress this season, with seven goals and five assists in 12 appearances.

Real Madrid’s interest in Lookman comes amid reports that Al-Hilal is preparing a record €300 million bid for Vinicius, potentially eclipsing Neymar’s €222 million transfer to PSG. If Vinicius departs, Madrid sees Lookman, valued at €60 million by Transfermarkt, as a strong candidate to fill his role. The winger’s versatility, pace, and technical skill make him an appealing addition to Carlo Ancelotti’s setup.

Lookman, who was recently ranked 14th at the Ballon d’Or Ceremony and is a frontrunner for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award, would be a notable addition to Madrid’s attacking options if negotiations advance.
