The Nigerian side capped what was an exceptional performance at the WAFU qualifiers with a clinical 3-0 victory at the qualifiers played in Bouaké, Cote d’Ivoire against Ainonvi FC du Benin.

Queens’ remarkable success was powered by the exceptional performance of Emem Essien, who scored in the final and finished the competition as top scorer with a total of 5 goals.

This qualification makes Edo Queens the third Nigerian team to participate in the CAF Women’s Champions League, joining Rivers Angels in the 2021 edition, as well as Bayelsa Queens who finished third in 2022.

Coach Moses Aduku instilled discipline and belief in the Nigerian side as evidently seen in their performance at the qualifiers.

His tactical approach and ability to motivate his players was vital and will come in handy when facing off against the best women’s football clubs from across the continent when the tournament officially gets underway this weekend.
