Anambra State Governor’s Wife Empowers Youth Fabricators With Starter Packs
By Chinwe Onuigbo, Awka
The wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo oversaw the distribution of projects and starter packs to a group of youth fabricators.
Urging the beneficiaries to use the equipment to improve their lives rather than sell them, Mrs. Soludo emphasized the importance of the initiative during a commissioning and handover ceremony in Awka, the state capital.
The Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP), implemented by the Federal Government in partnership with IFAD, aims to enhance the income and food security of rural households involved in rice and cassava production.
The programme also addresses key issues such as financial inclusion, youth empowerment, and environmental sustainability.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Soludo expressed the government’s commitment to supporting the VCDP and announced plans to train an additional 20 youths through the programme in the coming year.
Dr. Foster Ihejiofor, the Commissioner for Agriculture, echoed her sentiments, emphasizing the importance of mechanization in enhancing productivity for smallholder farmers.
Dr. Fatima Aliyu, the National Programme Coordinator for VCDP, commended the distribution of starter packs to the youth fabricators and highlighted the significance of the initiative in empowering women’s groups engaged in agro-processing.
Dr. Debby Onyefulu, the Acting State Programme Coordinator for Anambra State, emphasized the programme’s role in promoting innovation and self-reliance in agriculture since its inception in 2015.
“The empowerment of the youth fabricators through training and access to agricultural equipment is a significant step towards improving the livelihoods of rural communities in Anambra State,” Onyefulu added.
