Niger State Judge Urges Unity In Judiciary’s Sports Competition

The Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima Abdulmalik, has urged all participants in the 2024 National Sports Competition to adhere to the rules of the games in the spirit of national unity, with Fifteen states and several appellate courts participating in this year’s competition.

Justice Halima gave this charge in Minna, the Niger State capital, while declaring open the annual Judiciary Sports Competition organised by the National Sports Association for Judiciary (NASAJ).

Represented by Justice Mukail Abdullahi, she described the competition as an avenue for promoting unity among judiciary staff nationwide. Justice Mukail encouraged participants to follow the rules to achieve the tournament’s objectives.

“The Nigerian Judiciary Games provide an opportunity for us to come together in the spirit of friendly competition. As an arm of government, the Judiciary is often tasked with making weighty decisions that impact the lives of individuals and society as a whole,” Justice Halima stated.

“It is equally important for us to take time to relax, unwind, and enjoy friendly competition with our colleagues. It is on record that this is the third time the Niger State Judiciary is hosting and participating in the Nigerian Judiciary Games.”

“As we are all aware, sports have a unique ability to bring people together, build relationships, and foster unity and teamwork. As we participate in various events over the coming days, let us remember the values of fair play, respect, and sportsmanship. Let us strive for excellence while supporting and encouraging each other on and off the field.”

Justice Halima also commended the organisers for selecting Niger State as the host and for their dedication to ensuring the well-being of judiciary staff, helping them maintain physical fitness for effective service delivery.

“The essence of these games is to foster unity among judiciary staff and to promote national cohesion,” she remarked.

In his address, NASAJ President Sunday Noah, highlighted the positive impact of the games which have enhanced fitness among judiciary staff since their introduction. He noted that the competition aims to unite judiciary staff and maintain their physical well-being.

Noah also expressed gratitude to Niger State Governor Umar Mohammed Bago and Chief Judge Halima Abdulmalik for their hospitality and support.

The 30th edition of the Judiciary Sports Competition features the following events:

Football (male)

Handball (male and female)

Volleyball (male and female)

Table tennis (male and female)

Athletics (male and female): 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 4x100m, 4x400m relays

Badminton

Scrabble

Chess

Ayo

Draughts

Swimming

In the opening football match between the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, the game ended in a 0-0 draw. In the march-past competition, the Body of Benchers emerged in the first position.
