A Nigerian Senator Babangida Hussaini has called on the Nigerian Government to take immediate and decisive action against the rising cost of food items as farmers harvest their farm produce.

Senator Hussaini who is representing Jigawa North West Senatorial District at the red chamber also called on the States and local governments leadership to take similar actions against the astronomical rise of prices of food items.

In a statement, the federal legislator expressed concerns on how local communities in Northern Nigeria and other parts of the country are experiencing such difficulty even at the start of farming harvest.

He said, “this trend and its attendant economic burden on the people are quite alarming, especially at the start of the harvest season when food crops are expected to be sold at affordable prices.

“It is most unfortunate that insecurity, banditry and other nefarious activities of criminals in most of the food-producing areas, among other factors have contributed to the rising food prices and food insecurity in the nation.

“This ugly trend needs to be checked immediately before things get completely out of hand, as it portends serious threat to our national food security and stability as a nation.”

Senator Hussaini said, “I call on the Federal, State and Local Governments, as well as all relevant stakeholders to take immediate strategic actions to avert this palpable danger and ameliorate the situation in the overall interest of the nation.”

He appealed to Nigerians to continue to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at putting the country back on track for sustainable economic growth and long-term prosperity.
