Cross River State Governor Presents Utility Vehicles to Council Leaders

The Cross River State Government has presented cars to Vice Chairmen of the State’s Local Government Councils.

This, the government said would help in enhancing productivity, efficiency and accountability amongst public servants at the grassroots.

The deputy governor, Dr. Peter Odey presented the vehicles to the 18 local government councils vice chairmen in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, southern Nigeria.

At the brief ceremony, Dr. Odey emphasised that “the presentation of the 18 new Ford SUVs to the council vice chairmen is significant of this administration’s commitment to excellence and efficiency.”

He reminded the vice chairmen of their crucial role in delivering the dividends of democracy aligned to the “People First” mantra, which also required support from the state government to be effectively positioned.

He further urged the Vice Chairmen stating, “your role in developing the grassroots cannot be overemphasized. It is therefore important to remind you of your oath to support the chairmen and deliver on democratic dividend to the people.

“You are the closest to them and so I urge you to serve our people at the grassroots by initiating projects and programmes that would foster development within the communities and stay connected with them at all times. I’m urging all of you to sustain that connection with people in your domain,” the deputy governor averred.

Responding on behalf of other vice chairmen, the vice chairman of Obubra local government council, Mr. Leonard Ogwa, expressed gratitude to the people-centric Governor, Senator Bassey Otu and his deputy, Dr. Peter Odey.

Ogawa assured the government that they would work alongside their council chairmen to enshrine good governance at the communities as well as key into the People First agenda of the governor.

He noted  that the SUVs would significantly enhance the smooth and efficient operation of their offices.

Recall that shortly after their inauguration, the governor had also presented official vehicles to the 18 Council Chairmen.

Dr. Peter Odey with the assistance of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Emmanuel Ironbar handed over the keys of the SUVs to all 18 beneficiaries.
