LG Election Ongoing In Ogun State

Local Government Election into chairmanship and councillorship positions are currently ongoing in the 20 local government councils, and the 236 Wards across the three Senatorial Districts, in Ogun state, South West Nigeria.

 

However, late arrival of materials marred the exercise, which held amidst heavy presence of security operatives across the state.

 

The election which was initially scheduled to commence at 8:am and end by 2:p.m local time, however, did not start as at 9:30 am.

 

Major cities such as Abeokuta, the state capital; Ijebu Ode, Sagamu, Iperu, Ota and Ilaro, election materials arrived on time in some polling units , while some witnessed late arrival of officials and materials for the election.

 

VON’s Correspondent observed that electoral materials arrived at exactly 10: 30.am. at Ward 3, Polling Unit 2, Ita Osanyin, in Iperu town of Ikene Local Government Area where the state governor cast his vote at exactly 11: 24a.m.

 

However, voting commenced by 10: 30.a.m. at Polling Units 3, of Ward 3, Iregun in the same township.

 

Our correspondent also observed that in some polling units and wards in the Sagamu and Ikenne Local Government Areas respectively voters arrived early at their various polling units, but waited for election materials and officials of the State’s Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) for the exercise to commence.

 

Speaking with journalists after casting his vote, governor Abiodun commended the security operatives for their dedication to duty, particularly towards ensuring the peaceful conduct of the poll.

 

The Governor expressed optimism at the turn out of the voters and appreciate the effort of security operatives in ensuring peaceful conduct of the election.

 

Governor Abiodun also commended OGSIEC for proffering solution to the late arrival of electoral materials experience in some areas , urged the residents to abide with the electoral process.
