5th Sub-Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference opens

The 5th Sub Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference 2021 (SAIPEC) hosted by the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) has kicked off.
The virtual event, which has as theme “Post COVID 19: From Global Crisis to Global Opportunities”, brought together over 500 delegates and participants on Wednesday, 19th May, 2021.
Insightful welcoming remarks and keynote addresses were delivered by H.E. Dr. Timpre Sylva, Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Nigeria; Mr. Nicolas C. Odinuwe, Chairman, Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria; Eng. Sarki Auwalu, Director/CEO, Department of Petroleum Resources, Nigeria; Engr Mr. Simbi Wabote, Executive Secretary, Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board; Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, Secretary General, APPO; Dr. Pierce Riemer, Director General, World Petroleum Council ;and Ms. Mahdjouba Belaifa, Gas Market Analysis Department Head, Gas Exporting Countries Forum.

Further sessions on Day One covered the perspectives, strategies and opportunities as identified by the region’s NOCs, IOCs and regulators and a focus on Sub Saharan Africa’s gas industry, covering monetization and the importance of LNG and gas to power projects.
At the end of Day One, conclusions were drawn and delivered by the Executive Secretary, Engr. Simbi Wabote from the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board:
“The COVID-19 pandemic provides a sad realization of the importance of local content.
“We will continue to deploy strategies to promote local content in Nigeria and within the African continent to provide jobs, support businesses, and protect investments.”
