Borno State Governor Wins Dual Awards for Security Public Excellence

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has been recognised with two prestigious awards for his outstanding contributions to security and public service in the state.

The awards, part of the “Nigeria’s Pride Award” ceremony, were organised by Beauty of Nigeria TV, Africa Leadership Scorecard, and the Nationwide Reporters.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Media, Alhaji Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum was also accompanied by his Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi.

The accolades, titled “Best Governor on Security” and “Most People-Oriented Governor,” were presented by Mrs Sarah Jibril, a former presidential aspirant in Nigeria’s 2011 elections.

Among other distinguished recipients, Senator Pius Ayim, former Secretary to the Federal Government, was also honored during the event.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Zulum expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organisers, stating:
“I am deeply honored to stand before you at the 2024 Nigeria’s Pride Awards, an event thoughtfully curated by esteemed media professionals. I am grateful for these awards, which highlight our collective achievements in security and public welfare.”

Borno’s Transformation

Addressing attendees, Zulum reaffirmed that Borno State has significantly overcome its challenges, shifting from being the epicenter of Boko Haram insurgency to reclaiming its identity as the “Home of Peace and Hospitality.”

He revealed that over one million displaced persons have returned to their communities, aided by the construction and rehabilitation of thousands of homes in conflict-hit areas. These efforts have led to renewed stability, enabling farmers to return to their fields and reviving trade and commerce across the state and with neighboring countries such as Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.

Governor Zulum also emphasized that security improvements have reduced the need for armed escorts for travel, fostering greater connectivity and confidence among citizens.

Looking ahead, he highlighted the government’s commitment to technical and vocational education as a cornerstone for addressing unemployment, equipping youth with essential skills, and reducing restiveness in the post-conflict era.
