AMGA 2024: Tanzania Clinches Gold in Male, Female Marathon

Tanzania has clinched Gold Medals in both male and female 42.19 kilometre marathon race at the ongoing African Military Games, AMGA 2024 in Abuja.

 

The race which featured 19 female athletes and 24 male saw Magdalena Crispin Shauri of Tanzania clinched Gold medal in the female category with the time of 2:36.29, Private Cheptoyek Ruth of Uganda took silver medal with the time of 2:41.07 while Sergeant Chebet Emily of Uganda came in 3rd and bronze with the time of 2:44.10.

In the male category, of the Marathon race, Alphonce Simbu of Tanzania took gold in 2:17.19, in second place for silver medal was Dedefi Abo Gelato of Ethiopia with time of 2:18.31 while Algerian Laamedi El Hadi finished 3rd in time of 2:19.59.

Speaking at the venue, the Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa who presented the medals to the winners alongside Mrs Oghogo Musa congratulated the winners of the marathon and said Nigeria will do better next time in the marathon.

He expressed delight in the performance of Nigerian continents so far in the games who have been winning medals while appreciating the media for their cooperation so far in the games.

Winner male, Alphonce Simbu of Tanzania said his compatriot from Tanzania had told him about the route for the marathon and he trained accordingly which aid his victory.

Tanzanian female counterpart Magdalena Crispin Shauri said she is very happy to pick the gold medal and the training and discipline has shown in the results.
