The Kano State Government has officially launched a comprehensive recertification of Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) aimed at ensuring the accuracy and security of land records as part of a broader effort to protect investments and resolve land disputes.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf unveiled the initiative during the inauguration of the newly renovated Kano State Geographic Information System (KANGIS) and the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning’s administrative building.

The recertification drive, a key component of the state’s land management reforms, is designed to modernise land administration processes and increase transparency.

Governor Yusuf emphasised the significance of the reforms, describing them as a major step toward establishing an efficient and accountable land management system. He called on landowners to swiftly comply with the recertification process to ensure the integrity of land records.

The governor criticised the previous administration for its alleged corruption, mismanagement, and inadequate urban planning.

He pledged to restore order through reforms that focus on accountability, innovation, and sustainable development, with the ultimate goal of improving urban planning and fostering a more organised approach to land use.

A cornerstone of the reform package is the revitalisation of the Geographic Information System (GIS), which will play a central role in modernising land management.

The GIS platform is expected to enhance urban planning, streamline taxation, and minimise revenue leakages, positioning the state for more efficient governance.

As part of the overhaul, Governor Yusuf also announced a ban on inappropriate land allocations and the establishment of a State Task Force on Development Control.

This body will address urban development challenges while ensuring the protection of Kano’s cultural heritage.

In addition to these measures, the KANGIS and the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning’s facilities have undergone a complete renovation, now featuring advanced ICT infrastructure.

The upgrade is intended to improve service delivery and reflects the administration’s commitment to transparency and professional excellence.

The details of the engagement were shared in a press statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.
