Anambra State Government To Establish Bentonite Processing Factory

The Anambra State Government has announced plans to set up a Bentonite Processing Factory in line with the Soludo-led administration’s commitment to citizen empowerment through industrialization and the utilization of local resources for wealth creation, this factory will take advantage of the vast deposits of Bentonite found in the area.

The Managing Director/CEO of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited (ANSSMDCL), Prof. Charles O. Ofoegbu, along with agency officials and representatives of the village heads led by the President-General, recently conducted an inspection visit to a piece of land donated by the community for the factory. The site is located in Achalla-agu, Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area of the state.

Following the inspection and handover of nearly 7 hectares of land, Prof. Ofoegbu emphasized the government’s commitment to harnessing the abundant Bentonite deposits for the production of oil and water-based Bentonite needed for petroleum and water drilling.

The project aims to promote industrialization and overall development of the community, with the support and approval of the State Governor. The commencement of work on the project is scheduled for January 2025.

Dr. Nnamdi Iloduba, President-General of Nteje community, expressed gratitude and readiness to host the government during the project implementation. Local officials including Chairman Igwebuike Nwoye and Chairman Francis Uchendu commended the State Governor for bringing the project to their community.

They anticipate that the factory will lead to significant development, industrialization, and job creation, ultimately reducing unemployment and criminal activities among the youth.

The community leaders also assured the safety of factory workers and government officials involved in the project.
