Anambra State Government Approves Tax Exemptions, Empowerment Initiatives 

The Anambra State Government has approved tax exemptions for businesses with capital less than N100,000, aiming to bolster local entrepreneurship.

Additionally, the administration is set to grant local governments greater authority in managing sanitation across the state.

 

This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, in a press statement following the 35th State Executive Council meeting.

 

Mefor emphasised the council’s encouragement for investors to take over the management of public enterprises in the state, reiterating that leasing and concession agreements present viable alternatives to direct government management.

During the meeting, the council also honored the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the 10th National Assembly, with a moment of prayer.

Governor Soludo reflected on his attendance at Ubah’s burial in Nnewi, underscoring the senator’s passing as a profound loss that serves as a reminder of the fragility of life.

 

Furthermore, the council reaffirmed the enforcement of the state’s anti-touting law and urged those involved in such activities to participate in the Soludo administration’s empowerment schemes aimed at promoting legitimate livelihoods.

 

Mefor stated; “The council approved tax exemptions for groups whose business capitals are less than N100,000 and the devolution of more powers to local governments concerning sanitation.”

In addition, the council sanctioned a memo from the Commissioner for Water Resources and Power, Julius Chukwuemeka, authorising the rehabilitation of the vandalised injection substation at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam Campus.

The contract for this project was awarded to Kolc Ventures for N228,147,634.33.

The council also approved the provision of free internet access to the Anambra State House of Assembly Complex, Awka, awarding the contract to Pine Heights Global Resources Ltd for N81,872,000. The installation is scheduled to be completed within two weeks.

 

In an effort to enhance local commerce, a contract for the construction of 151 open stalls at Afuzo Market, Isuofia, was awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company at a total of N279,072,710.75.

 

The council also awarded a contract to Allpee International Ltd for road marking of the Amawbia flyover motorway, including a spur through Ezeuzu Junction to ICC along the Amansea Old Road, for the sum of N118,716,874.41, with a delivery timeline of six weeks.

 

Lastly, significant improvements to the health sector were announced, as the ANSEC approved a memo for the supply and installation of new medical and non-medical hospital equipment at the Specialist Hospital in Fegge and the General Hospital in Anaku, Onitsha South, and Ayamelum LGAs. The contract for this initiative was awarded to Chrislaug Ltd.
