The Chairman of the Investments and Securities Tribunal (IST), Amos Azi says the Tribunal is partnering with the National Judicial Council (NJC) to on-board its operations into an E-filing portal towards effective and efficient case management.
Speaking when members of the House of Representatives Committee on Capital Market visited him in Abuja, Azi explained that e-filling would make it easier for cases to be filled from anywhere in the world.
According to him, accessing and operating such technology will also make the process of case filing less cumbersome and more cost-effective for all parties involved.
Azi also urged the lawmakers to amend the act establishing IST in such a way that only lawyers with cognate experience in the Capital Market are appointed to head the Tribunal while lawyers with cognate experience within the Tribunal are appointed as Chief Register of the Tribunal
In his remarks, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Capital Market, Solomon Bob praised IST Management for doing a good job, noting that the Tribunal’s adoption of simplified business rules should be a case study and the positives other courts in the country should embrace.
The lawmaker said the Tribunal’s capacity and ability to dispense Justice within the 90 days stipulated timeframe is a big plus for the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
The Committee Chairman and members, who frowned at the poor accommodation that houses the Tribunal as its National Headquarters, assured that everything within their powers would be done to ensure the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration allocates a befitting accommodation to the Tribunal in the nation’s Capital.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Judicial Information Technology Policy Committee (JITPCO), Honourable Justice Kashim Zannah has described the Investments and Securities Tribunal (IST) as a high-priority organisation that can deploy Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a game changer, especially in the area of E-Filling of cases by concerned parties at the Tribunal.
Hon Justice Zannah, who is also the Chief Judge of Borno State, spoke when the IST Chairman, Amos Azi visited his office in Abuja and harped on the need to build the capacity of staff through regular training given that the technology being used in courts are specialised in nature.
Hon Zannah, a recipient of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) National honour, promised that JITPCO would be looking out for training opportunities that can benefit IST staff to attain mastery that gives the Tribunal an edge in its operations
Earlier in his speech, the IST Chairman, Amos Azi said the Tribunal’s integration into this state-of-the-art platform will not only streamline its processes but also significantly reduce the operational costs associated with the traditional case management systems.
Describing the move as a clear demonstration of foresight and efficiency that will serve for many years to come, Azi said the successful implementation of the e-filling system has set the stage for greater cooperation between the IST and the judiciary.
For him, this is a positive development that would ultimately improve service delivery to all stakeholders in the nation’s Capital Market
