The Nigerian Ministry of Works has demanded the list of defaulting contractors working on projects under the Federal Emergency and Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA.
The Minister of State for Works, Mr. Mohammed Goronyo made this demand to FERMA during his familiarisation tour of the South West section of FERMA.
This was contained in a Press statement by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations Mohammed Ahmed.
During the tour, Mr. Goronyo charged the Managing Director of FERMA to warn contractors who fail to deliver on their contract awards to desist as the projects are being funded by taxpayers’ money.
He said the list must be submitted to the Ministry of Works Headquarters before the end of next week.
The Minister also proposed the need for a technical Committee that would go across the country to monitor FERMA projects to ascertain the quality of their deliveries.
While noting that there were several challenges to be overcome for better operations of the Agency, he commended the Federal Road Management Engineers from the Southwest States for all their efforts.
“The country must tighten up its belt and combat the challenges frontally. We have been drawing from a well without water for so long. We now have a President who is willing to face the challenges head-on without complaining. We must be ready to support one another and do things differently. We must all support His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deliver on his mandate” he said.
Also, during the familiarisation tour, Mr. Goronyo commissioned a solar-powered streetlight project in the Isale-Eko community of Lagos state, South-West Nigeria.
While commissioning the project, Mr. Goronyo said it would improve the socioeconomic well-being of the community as well as mitigate security challenges confronting the area which he explained is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The street light is being provided by the Federal Emergency Roads Maintenance Agency.
