Nigerian Army Achieves Major Victory Against Bandits in Taraba, Benue

The Nigerian Army has recorded a major success in its ongoing operation to rid Taraba and Benue states of bandits and other criminal elements.
According to Captain Oni Olubodunde, spokesperson of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, troops of the brigade conducted a well-coordinated clearance operation in the general areas of Akahagu and China villages in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The operation, which was carried out on December 7, 2024, also extended to Ikayor village, where troops engaged bandits at a camp linked to the notorious and wanted criminal Akiki Utiv, also known as “Full Fire.”
During the encounter, troops applied overwhelming firepower, forcing the bandits to abandon their positions and flee in disarray.
“Following the engagement, a red Toyota Corolla vehicle and a motorcycle were recovered. During the search of the abandoned vehicle, a military camouflage trouser, a Beretta pistol with one round of 9mm ammunition, and other items were discovered,” added Captain Oni.
The Commander 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their bravery and resilience in the face of adversity.

He assured the residents of Taraba and Benue States under Sector 3 of OPWS that the military will remain resolute in its mission to maintain peace and security in the region.
Brigadier General Uwa also encouraged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support the efforts of the security agencies.
“The success of the operation is a testament to the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting the lives and properties of citizens, and to ridding the country of banditry and other forms of criminality.”
The operation is part of the ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to restore peace and security in Taraba and Benue states, which have been affected by banditry and other forms of criminality.
The Commander, 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, has assured that it will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the region is rid of all forms of criminality and that the lives and properties of citizens are protected.
