The Niger State Chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), has launched a sensitization and enlightenment campaign at the Children’s Remand Home in Minna, Niger State to educate the inmates about the dangers of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
The campaign is part of the ongoing 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global initiative aimed at combating violence against women and the girl-child.
Speaking to the inmates over the weekend, the Chairperson of FIDA in Niger State, Barrister Bolanle Jibogun, encouraged them to view their stay at the home as part of God’s plan and an opportunity for reform.
She emphasized that their detention should not make them feel like outcasts but rather as a chance to reflect and correct their actions in line with the law.
Jibogun reminded the youths of their bright futures and urged them to abstain from activities that could jeopardize their prospects. She stressed the importance of steering clear of any vices that could lead to a return to the remand home.

She further explained that FIDA, as a non-governmental organization committed to protecting the rights of women, girls, and even men against gender-related violence, decided to extend this campaign to the inmates as part of the 16 Days of Activism.
The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the consequences of gender-based violence and encourage behavioral change.
The Chairperson also highlighted that the annual 16 Days of Activism engages various organizations, including non-governmental organizations, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), to educate citizens
