In alignment with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Kano State office of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), has heightened its campaign to address Gender-Based Violence in secondary schools.

At a campaign in the School of Arabic Studies Kano, NOA held a symposium with the theme, “United Campaign Towards 30 years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Violence Against Women and Girls.”

The Kano State Acting Coordinator National Orientation Agency NOA, Rabi’u Ado drew the attention of the students to the significance of the war against Gender Base Violence.

He said violence against children is a crime and sensitization is necessary to address the growing trends in society.

“We need to reduce this growing trend in schools and within the neighbourhood to protect the children.”

Ado reiterated the determination of the Nigerian Government to protect the rights and privileges of the Nigerian child.

He said violence against women and girls will no longer be tolerated under any guise urging the students to report any suspicious violent tendencies against any girl to the school Authority.

The Acting Director NOA warned children against collecting necessary gifts from unknown persons within the neighbourhood.

“Run away from people who will entice you with small gifts within the neighbourhood and for boys help the ladies by exposing anyone who intimidates them.”

Also, the Assistant Director NOA, Maijidda Inuwa spoke on the advantages of girl child protection and good parenting.

She noted that good parenting is key to better upbringing of children urging parents to ensure close monitoring of their wards from homes to schools.

She said, that educating the girl child is equivalent to educating society adding that no investment is too much in the Education of children for a brighter future.

“Please support your children’s Education, and encourage them by solving their needs, because when you solve their own needs you’ve saved them from collecting something outside.”

There were discussions and presentations on how to curb gender-based violence in society.
