The Nigerian Army has vowed to end all threats of the ‘Lakurawa’ terrorist group, assuring Nigerians of its resolve to eliminate the group.
Speaking to State House Correspondents on Monday on the joint border patrols by Nigeria and other neighboring countries, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, said that Niger Republic and Chad are supporting Nigeria to end the activities of the Lakurawa group and address the vulnerabilities that allowed the new group to infiltrate the country.
Lieutenant General Oluyede, who also said he visited the President to brief him on ongoing operations in Northwest and Northeast Nigeria further highlighted the significance of the joint forces, adding that it became necessary for Niger Republic and other neighboring countries, so as to ensure onslaughts from the Nigerian army penetrates targets and block all gaps.
“Well we have to get in touch with them because you know it affects them too that is why we all need to come on board to tackle them, we are hitting them hard at the Nigerian end and what is expected is that once you hit them hard at this end they will flee to Niger Republic,so now that Niger Republic is coming on board that means very soon,Lukrawa will be a thing of the past” Lt. Gen. Oluyede said.
Additionally, the COAS said he visited two formations of division A in Northern Nigeria as well as the theatre operations, where he addressed the soldiers and motivated the troops on the need to end all forms of insecurity in Nigeria.
Lt. Gen Olueyede also said that he assured the theatre operations of adopting different strategies that would produce different results.
“Well, i actually visited two formations, that is the one in northwest ,a division, and the theatre operations in the northeast. Well basically I was there to speak with my officers and soldiers and to make them realise that there is need to end all these forms of insecurity in Nigeria, and i made a bold to tell them that i will so things differently and i expect better results going forward.
“Well in a way its related to my appointment, I am here to reassure Mr President that i will do my best to make Nigeria better in terms of security and that I’m going to explore doing this maybe in a different way. I’ll get some other results that will make Nigeria better. That’s my major aim of coming and to seek his support, which he’s been doing over the years, and i expect him he will support us to do better.”
It would be recalled that the Nigerian Army along with forces from Chad, Niger and other neighboring countries, on December 8th begun joint boder patrols to address cross-border threats in the sideways of Sokoto state border against the ‘Lakurawa’ terrorist group.
