Governor Namadi Signs Jigawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission Bill into Law

Jigawa State Governor in North West Nigeria, Umar Namadi has formally assented to the Jigawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission Law to enhance electricity regulation and access in the state.
The legislation, which was recently passed by the Jigawa State House of Assembly, establishes the Jigawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Its mandate includes overseeing electricity generation, transmission, system operation, distribution, and supply in the state.
The law among others, also aims to enhance electricity access for residents of Jigawa State while fostering an environment conducive to private sector investment in the power industry.
While signing the Law at the Government House Dutse, Governor Namadi reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing the state’s energy needs, which is vital to the development of Jigawa State.
He said, “This law is a vital step towards sustainable development and economic growth in Jigawa State. By strengthening electricity regulation and promoting innovative energy solutions, we aim to create a more reliable and inclusive energy ecosystem for our people.”
Namadi emphasized that, the development is expected to improve electricity availability and stimulate economic growth across Jigawa State.
Governor Umar Namadi administration, earlier this year, and for the first time in the history of Jigawa State, created the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy with Dr. Sirajo Musa as the pioneer commissioner in the ministry.
In a press statement by the Governor’s spokesperson Hamisu Gumel, Governor Namadi also hinted at the establishment of a new regulatory body under the supervision of the same Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, to regulate the distribution and transmission of electricity within the state.
