Run Club Abuja has announced the inaugural Run Club Abuja Women’s Run, scheduled to take place on Saturday, 22 February 2025. The event aims to celebrate women’s empowerment, health and community while addressing the pressing issue of period poverty.

Speaking at a press conference, the Organising Committee Chairperson, Onyebuchi Ibe, emphasised the event’s dual purpose: fostering wellness and making a social impact.

Proceeds from the run will fund the distribution of six months’ worth of sanitary pads to 500 students between JSS3 and SSS3 in select public secondary schools across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This initiative aims to bring the spotlight on period poverty and ensure young girls can focus on their education without barriers.

“This run is more than just an event; it’s a movement celebrating women’s strength, determination and unity,” said Ibe.

The 10km run will cover a scenic tree-lined route through Wuse 2 and Maitama, open to runners, joggers and walkers. Safety measures, including traffic management by the Federal Road Safety Commission, mobile medics, and volunteer support, will be in place.

Participants will receive medals at the finish line to commemorate their achievements, while the public is encouraged to cheer on the women and join in celebrating sisterhood and solidarity.

Run Club Abuja urged stakeholders to support policies that address women’s health and dignity. Registration details for the event and updates can be found on www.rcawomensrun.ng and on social media platforms @RunClubAbuja.
