VP Shettima Urges Unity, Collaboration at BUK Reunion

Vice President Kashim Shettima has emphasised the importance of unity and collaboration among Nigerians during the 20th-anniversary reunion of the Bayero University Kano (BUK) Faculty of Social and Management Science (SMS) class of 2004.

Represented by Dr. Nurudeen Zauro, the vice president highlighted the administration’s commitment to inclusivity, access to capital, food security, and employment generation.

The event, held at the BUK Convocation Centre, brought together representatives from government agencies, private sector leaders, and civil society organisations.

Shettima praised Bayero University Kano’s contributions to providing quality education for all Nigerians, regardless of religion or ethnicity.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by women and marginalised groups, emphasising the need for targeted interventions to address systemic inequalities.

The Vice President called on participants to contribute to making Nigeria great again, emphasising the critical role of future leaders and partners in ensuring the successful implementation and sustainability of government programs and initiatives.

The reunion aimed to foster sustainable growth, inclusivity, and collaboration for economic empowerment.

Shettima urged participants to seize the opportunity to exchange best practices, design innovative strategies, and explore emerging opportunities that can drive meaningful change.

The event also featured a tree-planting exercise, which Professor Abdulazeez Umar Raji, Deputy Director of the Faculty of Arts and Environmental Sciences, noted was a key aspect of the reunion.

Dr. Nurudeen Zauro, Technical Advisor to the Nigerian President on Economic and Financial Inclusion, emphasised the importance of reviving the culture of planting and nurturing trees to combat climate change.

The BUK SMS 2004 Class presented awards of excellence to various departments, including Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Geography, Political Science, and Sociology.
