A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ebonyi State, Richard Nwafor has urged a former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar to shelve any ambition of joining the presidential race, come 2027 general election.

Nwafor who is the party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, gave the indication while exchanging views with newsmen in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

He advised that the PDP should zone its presidential ticket to the Southern part of Nigeria come  2027.

He said that  in 2023, the ex-Vice President ran the race on the platform of the PDP and lost, just as he also ran the country’s presidential elections before the one of 2023, when he even picked Mr. Peter Obi as his running mate, but also lost.

“I wonder why Atiku, in recent times, is being rumoured to be nursing ambition for the 2027 presidential election. I know that in 2023, several efforts were made by the PDP faithful, especially those from the southern part of the country, to convince him to allow the Southern members of the party to pick up the presidential ticket, to pave the way for equity, fairness and social justice in the party,” he said.

“Continuing, the PDP chieftain said, “since the dinner in Yola, Adamawa State, I have decided to keep mute and watch things as they unfolds.

However, let it be very clear to those concerned that His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, a man I respect so much, should bury the idea of 2027 presidential ambition and support a Southerner instead of romancing Obi when the two of them couldn’t reach an agreement on or before 2023 election.

“This opinion is personal and doesn’t represent the common interests of  my office,” he added.
