Katsina State Hosts PPP Workshop

The Katsina State Investment Promotion Agency (KIPA) has organised a two-day workshop focused on public-private partnerships (PPPs) for senior government officials.

Themed “Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Public-Private Partnership (PPPs),” the workshop sought to equip participants with the essential skills for effectively managing PPP projects.

The event attracted senior officials from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) across the state. By reinforcing the state’s institutional capacity, the workshop aimed to harness the potential of PPPs in addressing infrastructure deficits and enhancing service delivery.

The Katsina State Deputy Governor, Malam Farouk Lawal, officially opened the workshop, emphasising its alignment with the “Building Your Future Initiative” led by Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda.

Represented by the permanent secretary of the Deputy Governor’s office, Mannir Aliyu Mani, the deputy governor stated that this initiative is a significant stride towards achieving sustainable development in Katsina.

Malam Farouk highlighted the global emergence of PPPs as a viable solution to development challenges. In Katsina, where the demand for infrastructure is substantial, PPPs can provide innovative strategies to bridge existing gaps.

He noted, “This workshop aligns with Katsina State’s Action for Business Enabling Reforms (SABERs) and reflects our commitment to creating a conducive environment for investors.”

As the chairman of the state’s committee on ease of doing business, the Deputy Governor stressed the critical role of institutional capacity in attracting reliable private sector partners for successful PPPs.

“The comprehensive agenda of this workshop reflects our commitment to excellence. Topics such as legal frameworks, risk management, financing strategies and stakeholder engagement are essential for implementing successful PPPs,” he said.

The Director General of Katsina State Investment Promotion Agency (KIPA), Ibrahim Tukur Jikamshi, underscored the importance of public-private partnership for sustainable development in the state, the country and the whole world.

“PPPs represent a powerful tool for economic growth, infrastructural development and service delivery, it enables the states and nationals to harness the expertise, efficiency and innovations of the private sector while ensuring our public objectives are met, not only in our state but even globally,” Jikamshi stated.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to creating an enabling environment that encourages investment, fosters partnership and ultimately benefits communities across the state.

The director general encouraged the participants at the engagement to actively participate and learn from one another to achieve the desired results.
