Bolaji Abdullahi Quits PDP, Yet to Disclose New Party

Former Nigerian Minister, and a close political ally to the 8th Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Mallam Abdulganiyu Bolaji Abdullahi has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

 

This is confirmed in a resignation letter dated December 16, 2024, addressed to Ubandawaki Ward Chairman, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.

 

Abdullahi , said he had ample time to reflect, and has therefore come to the difficult conclusion that this is the only tenable option for him at this time.

 

He expressed gratitude to the leadership PDP for the opportunities he had to serve the state and the country on its platform, and for the great moments they shared.

Consulting parties

In a telephone conversation with VON, the former Minister said he is yet to decide which of the registered political parties to join as he was still consulting widely with his followers and party supporters.

 

According to him, “In the next few weeks or months, I will make public which of the parties to join.

 

Asked if he was planning to quit partisan politics, he disclosed emphatically, boldly and hurried that  “how do you expect me to quit partisan politics at this my age when the likes of Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and other elderly Nigerians are still very active in politics.

Abdullahi served on the cabinet of the ex-Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan as Minister of Youth Development in July 2011 and as the Minister of Sports till 2014.

 

He was also the Former National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress APC in 2016 to 2018 and one time Commissioner for Education in Kwara State.

 

He was the author of Sweet Sixteen which was adopted by the JAMB/UME in 2019-2020.

 

Reacting to this development, the state Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Tunde Mohammed said he has not formally received any letter to that effect in his office.

 

He said the party has procedures in reacting to such issues and would react at the appreciate time.

 

According to him, if it eventually happens, the PDP in the state is still intact and urged his followers and party loyalists to remain committed and loyal to the leadership of the party in the state.
