National Assembly Trains Directorate Cadre on Strategic Management

The National Assembly (NASS) in collaboration with Knowledge Research Consult has organised a three day training workshop for directorate cadre on strategic management in public sector.

Declaring the training open in Sokoto State by the Clerk to NASS, Sani Magaji Tambuwal, said the training program reflect the commitment of National Assembly to enhance staff skills and prepare them with modern public administration.

He said upon his assumption in office in 2022, the management identified human capacity gap as critical area that hinder performance of staff in the national assembly.

State of Emergency

He said in response to the challenge, NASS declared state of emergency on training and retraining with the goal of revitalising and effectively utilising untapped human resources potentials.

“As you are aware national assembly plays an indispensable role in the governance of the country, hence we make a commitment to invest hugely in human resources capacity development to optimise the NASS delivery capacity.

“To fulfill this commitments we have organised targetted capacity building program for staff across all cadres between 2022 and 2024.

“Almost all staff of the national assembly from different cadres benefitted with one form of training or the other and have confidence my successor would build on the progress made so far,” he said.

Modern Public Tools

Tambuwal represented by the Deputy Secretary Procurement in the NASS,  Liman Baba Sanda, said the training would go a long way in enhancing the staff with modern public tools in dealings with budgetting and expenditures.

The training is to enhance their knowledge on how best to address strategic managerial issues,” he added.

He expressed hope that the participants would benefits from the training as well as reciprocate the gesture by improving national assembly service delivery for development.

The Director Training and Staff Development, Chinwo Justina, said the clerk made capacity building as his top priority when he assumed Office and directed the department of human resources to come up with work plan to ensure all staff are trained.

She said the journey began in August 2023, where over 3,000 staff were trained.

From July to September this year, over 600 staff from GL 04 to 14 were also trained. The training of all cadres of legislative aides was concluded on the 9th of October, 2024.

” This is the third and last batch of training for Directorate Cadre this year by which successful completion we shall be bold to say that the staff of the national assembly from grade level 17 down to to grade level 04 who made themselves available have been trained,” she said.

Promote Productivity

She explained that the training was meant to promote productivity and strengthen the decision making process of the Directorate Cadre of the NASS.

Justina urged participants to utilise the opportunity to obtain maximum benefits as a lots of resources have been put in place to enable them acquire skills and knowledge required for their effectiveness.

She appreciated the clerk and the entire management team for their support and dedication to capacity building of the human resource of the national assembly.

The Director also applauded the Chief Executive Officer of Knowledge Research Consult and his team for the partnership with the national assembly and ensuring that the program became reality.

Also, the Managing Consultant Knowledge Research Consult, Mr David Ugwu, appreciated NASS for their partnership towards enhancing capacity building of their staff.

Ugwu charged the participants to utilise the opportunity to acquire effective experience that would enable them to uphold standard of the NASS for sustainable development in the country.
