The Adamawa State Government in northeast Nigeria, through its Fintiri Wallet initiative, has commenced the disbursement of ₦50,000 to 65,000 beneficiaries as part of its strategic social investment programme.

The initiative is aimed at combating poverty and boosting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the state, which aligns with the state government’s 8-Point Agenda.

The agenda focuses on youth and women’s development, poverty alleviation, and commerce convergence to empower citizens.

Speaking during the flag-off, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri emphasised that the programme reflected a shift from unsustainable handouts to institutionalised poverty alleviation and wealth creation.

“The significance of today’s event reinforces the ingenious belief that the instrument for poverty alleviation must be institutional in both concept and operation,” said Governor Fintiri.

He also highlighted the establishment of the Ministry of Entrepreneurship Development and the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA) to promote innovation, provide entrepreneurial skills, and foster sustainable business ownership.

Beneficiaries, drawn from open markets, streets, and homes, include the poor and vulnerable residents of Adamawa State willing to break free from poverty.

He said the disbursement marked a departure from previous methods of selective distributions, which often prioritised privileged associates.

The disbursement, which will conclude within the week, will ensure that beneficiaries have working capital in time for the festive season.

The Ministry of Entrepreneurship Development will oversee follow-ups to provide support, run trader clinics, and train recipients on micro-investment strategies, savings, and bookkeeping to sustain their businesses.

This programme serves as a beacon of hope for Adamawa citizens, empowering them to start trades, support their families, and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
