President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received Ghana’s President-elect, John Mahama, at his official residence at the State House, Abuja.
Senior Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, revealed this on his X handle on Tuesday.
According to the Presidential aide, “The President-Elect of Ghana, H.E John Mahama paid a courtesy visit to President Tinubu at his residence, Presidential Villa, State House Yesterday.”
Ghana’s President-Elect is holding a courtesy visit to the Nigerian leader a week after the Electoral Commission of Ghana declared Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress the winner of the country’s 2024 presidential election.
In a telephone call, President Tinubu congratulated the President-elect of Ghana, Mahama on his victory in the December 7 election after his opponent, the country’s current vice president and ruling party candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, conceded defeat.
A statement by President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, revealed that the Nigerian leader applauded the candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party, the Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for conceding defeat before the official announcement by Ghana’s Electoral Commission.
Mahama served as Vice President of Ghana from 2009 to 2012, President from 2012 to 2017, Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2009, and held deputy and ministerial roles between 1998 and 2001.
President Tinubu renewed his support for deepening the bonds between Nigeria and Ghana, underscored by shared history, cultural ties, mutual support and cooperation, Pan-African goals, democracy, the rule of law, and economic integration.
He said he looks forward to working with President Mahama’s incoming administration to strengthen bilateral ties across various sectors and build a better future in the West African region.
The Courtesy Visit
The visit of Ghana’s President-Elect, John Dramani Mahama, symbolizes the deepening of friendship, diplomatic ties, and hope for Africa’s future.
The meeting also showcased better prospects for West Africa’s regional prosperity and togetherness.
