As the Christmas bells ring and festive lights illuminate homes across Nigeria, the air is filled with joy, laughter, and celebration. But amid the festivities, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) is urging Nigerians to pause and reflect on one critical aspect of life—health.

The Director General of NACA, Dr. Temitope Ilori, emphasized the importance of making informed and responsible health decisions during the Christmas celebrations.

Dr. Ilori urged Nigerians to take advantage of free and confidential HIV testing services available nationwide. She highlighted that although HIV remains a significant public health challenge, advancements in testing and treatment have made it manageable, ensuring individuals can live healthier and longer lives with early diagnosis.
Acknowledging the increased social activities during the festive season, Dr. Ilori advised Nigerians to practice safe behaviors. “Use protection during sexual activities, and for those who choose abstinence, continue to uphold it as the safest option”. She said.
She stressed the importance of education and awareness, adding that ignorance is no longer an excuse. “With widespread access to HIV testing and education, everyone now has the tools to make informed choices”. Dr. Ilori explained.
NACA reaffirmed its commitment to reducing the spread of HIV and achieving an AIDS-free Nigeria. Dr. Ilori encouraged Nigerians to make their health a priority, saying, “This festive season, give yourself the gift of health by visiting the nearest health facility or community testing centre to know your HIV status. Let us work together to create a healthier, happier Nigeria.”
She urged citizens to leverage the season to secure their health and contribute to the nation’s collective well-being.
