The wife of the Kwara State Governor, Amb. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, has stated that Primary Health Care (PHCs) remained the cornerstone of Nigeria’s healthcare system.

She made this statement in Ilorin while speaking at the Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency’s End of Year Party and Local Government Leadership Award.

AbdulRazaq emphasised that PHCs were crucial as they served as the first point of contact with the national healthcare system and were one of the most efficient systems in the country, in spite of facing various challenges.

She stated, “The human resources in primary healthcare remain one of the most resilient sets of human resources in the country.”

Highlighting PHC’s role in universal healthcare, she assured that Kwara State would continue to ensure vulnerable groups have access to quality healthcare without facing financial hardship.

She also pledged the state government’s support and the office of the First Lady towards improving the healthcare system, particularly Primary Health Care.

AbdulRazaq commended the Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency for its achievements, noting the state’s recognition as the best in the North Central region in the PHC Leadership Challenge.

She also celebrated Kwara’s outstanding performance in the introduction of the HPV vaccine in Nigeria, where the state topped the national rankings.

Dr Nusirat Elelu, the Executive Secretary of the Agency, explained that the event was to celebrate the end of the year and the Agency’s remarkable achievements.

She noted that 2024 had been a year of collective dedication and hard work to improve the health and well-being of people in Kwara.

Elelu further highlighted the Agency’s efforts in 2023 to implement activities that positioned Kwara for sustainable and equitable healthcare at the grassroots level.

She also pointed out that Kwara’s selection as the best state in North Central for the Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge award in both 2023 and 2024 was a result of the significant investment by the current administration.
