Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has expressed his condolences to the citizens who have lost their lives in the recent tragic stampedes across several states in Nigeria. His message was conveyed through his Special Adviser and Head of Media and Communications, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze.
Jonathan expressed his deep sorrow, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the recent tragic stampede incidents that have claimed the lives of our fellow citizens in various parts of the country, where palliatives were scheduled to be distributed by public-spirited groups and individuals. These incidents have left all of us in shock and mourning.”
He extended his prayers to the families of the deceased, saying, “My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends who have lost their loved ones, as well as with those who have been injured.”
The former President also called on the Nigerian government to provide the necessary support for the victims. “I urge the authorities to offer adequate support to the victims and ensure that steps are taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.”
He also took the opportunity to encourage Nigerians to embrace peace, unity, and compassion during the Christmas season. He emphasised, “I encourage all Nigerians to show compassion and solidarity, especially during this festive season. Christmas is a time of love, unity, and hope.”
Reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas, he added, “Christmas reminds us of the importance of caring for one another and working toward peace and harmony in our communities.”
The former President concluded by urging Nigerians to adopt the spirit of Christmas, saying, “I urge every Nigerian to embrace the spirit of Christmas by extending a hand of friendship to those in need and fostering unity across all divides. May this season rekindle our collective resolve to build a nation founded on justice, fairness, and mutual respect.”
He also called for prayers, stating, “Let us pray for wisdom, strength, and resilience to overcome our challenges, and for brighter days ahead for our beloved country.”
Goodluck Jonathan ended his message by wishing all Nigerians a Merry Christmas filled with joy, peace, and love, and hoped the new year would bring renewed hope and prosperity for the nation.
