U – Save Foundation Provides Solar Borehole To FCT Community

A non governmental organisation, U – Save Foundation has donated a fourteen tap solar powered borehole to a community in the Federal Capital Territory.

 

While commissioning the project in the Area E section of Nyanya Abuja, the Executive Director of U – Save Foundation and Special Assistant to the President on Public Health Office of the Vice President, Mrs Uju Rochas Anwukah, said that the foundation basically improved access to cleaning drinking water and to sensitize communities on hygiene and sanitation.
She said that those are keys to having a healthy life and creating healthier communities in Nigeria.
Mrs Anwukah emphasized that access to sanitation facilities have the potential to reduce open defecation in the country.
She said that the foundation also provides access to clean sanitation facilities at the college of education in Minna, Niger state.
She noted that U-Save has renovated about thirty four toilets and built six new ones and also initiated menstrual hygiene sensitization in several communities and schools in Nigeria.
On his part, the Director Water Quality Control and Sanitation, Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Mr Olu-Daniels Ibiyemi, stressed that the project was done to meet the needs of the people in the community in order to save lives through portable drinking water.
He said that U – Save Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Resources ensure that communities have water, sanitation and hygiene.
Earlier in her remarks, the community leader, Mrs Asabe Sani, appreciated the U – Save Foundation for coming to their rescue by providing the Solar powered portable drinking water.
She promised that the community will protect and maintain the project for sustainability.
