The Inter Party Advisory Council, (IPAC) Ebonyi State chapter has strongly condemned the slow pace of the ongoing construction of the Vanco flyover and other projects awarded to some contractors by Governor Francis Nwifuru led government.

IPAC, which is an umbrella body of all the political parties in the State, made the condemnation during the 2024 end-of-year media engagement of the Council to assess the 19 months of Governor Nwifuru’s administration.

The IPAC State Chairman, Comrade Ernest Nwaze, who made this known during the media engagement with Journalists in Abakaliki said that the event was aimed at providing a comprehensive overview of the governor’s performance, addressing concerns, and offering constructive recommendations for progressive Ebonyi State.

He said: “IPAC observes a very slow pace of work on the Vanco flyover and other projects awarded by the state government and enjoined the contractors handling some of the projects to execute the job according to its specifications.

“IPAC also observes that some of the contractors are not doing enough in implementing government policies and programs and suggested proper supervision to avoid shoddy jobs,” the chairman added.

Dissolve Cabinet

He further called on Governor Nwifuru’s administration to ensure effective supervision of his appointees, alleging that “some of them are either being overwhelmed by the responsibilities of their offices or lack the capacities required for holding such offices.

“IPAC observes that some of the state government appointees are not doing enough in delivering their duties. We recommend that His Excellency should urgently reshuffle or outrightly dissolve his cabinets and select competent professionals who will be more diligent in implementing government policies and programs under better supervision.

“This is for transparency in governance and accountability in the management of public resources. We also call for the establishment of independent oversight bodies to monitor the implementation of projects and policies.”

Comrade Nwaze, however commended Governor Nwifuru for his leadership and commitment to maintaining peace and order within the state, pointing out that there was recognition of his proactive approach to security, ensuring that citizens are safe and able to pursue their daily activities without fear. However, he noted that sustained efforts are required to address emerging security challenges.

Comrade Nwaze also disclosed that IPAC members acknowledged the governor’s administration initiatives which are aimed at boosting economic growth in the state

He also applauded the governor’s step towards improving infrastructural development, especially the two kilometers of road construction across the communities, housing schemes, health and education sectors.

He disclosed that the body has adopted and supported Governor Nwifuru’s social welfare programs, particularly in the areas of housing scheme for traditional rulers, youth empowerment, and women’s participation in governance, which are highly appreciated as his programs cut across all political parties.
