NNMDA Collaborates with 16 Professors to Revolutionise Natural Medicine

The Nigerian Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA) has partnered with 16 professors to promote the development of natural medicine in Nigeria. This collaboration is part of the agency’s efforts to standardise traditional medicines and integrate them into the national healthcare system.

The Director-General of NNMDA, Professor Martins Emeje said 80% of traditional medicines are highly effective in addressing health challenges with minimal side effects. Emeje emphasised the need to teach traditional medicines in schools to promote cultural pride and self-sufficiency in healthcare.

The DG said this during the end of the Year media parley with the Director General of the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency, Monday at the NNMDA Laboratory and Headquarters in VI.

To achieve this, NNMDA has outlined several key projects for 2025, including traditional medicine database development and training of traditional medicine practitioners.

The agency has also received accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) as the awarding body for National Skills Qualification in Traditional Medicine. Additionally, NNMDA is applying nanotechnology to traditional medicine and reinforcing its research and development models.

Emeje stressed that Nigerians should be proud of their roots and traditional medicines, which have been sustained over time.

He also debunked claims that traditional medicines lack dosage, highlighting the agency’s efforts to standardise and regulate traditional medicine practices.

By partnering with professors and promoting traditional medicine development, NNMDA aims to preserve Nigeria’s cultural heritage and promote sustainable healthcare solutions.
