TikTok Deletes 2.1 Million Nigerian Videos Over Violations
Citing violations of its content restrictions, TikTok has announced the removal of 2.1 million videos uploaded by Nigerian users during the third quarter of 2024.
The business disclosed the information in its Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, which also showed that 147.8 million videos were removed worldwide in the same time frame.
Nigeria was one of the top 50 nations causing these violations, which together accounted for 90% of all platform content removals.
It was discovered that the deleted videos violated TikTok’s rules, which centre on topics including safety, civility, mental and behavioural health, privacy and security, and integrity and authenticity.
TikTok took major action against phony or underage accounts in addition to removing videos.
To preserve the integrity of its ecosystem, the platform announced that it had deleted 214.8 million accounts.
“We remain vigilant in our efforts to detect external threats and safeguard the platform from fake accounts and engagement,” TikTok stated.
“These threats persistently probe and attack our systems, leading to occasional fluctuations in the reported metrics.
“Despite this, we are steadfast in our commitment to promptly identify and remove any accounts, content, or activities that seek to artificially boost popularity on our platform.”
According to further stats from the report, 12.2 million live sessions were suspended, 1.1 billion likes were removed, and 1.3 billion comments were removed.
Additionally, 57.2 million phony followers were eliminated by the platform after it was found that they were the result of automated or phony processes.
TikTok reported a decrease in the number of ads that were taken down for account-level and advertising policy infractions during the quarter.
“Advertiser accounts and ad content must comply with our Community Guidelines, Advertising Policies, and Terms of Service,” the company emphasised.
“We are continually reviewing and strengthening our systems to identify new patterns and quickly and accurately remove ads that violate our policies.”
