The Secretary of the Labour Party, LP Ebonyi State Chapter, Barrister Luke Chibueze Adonwe, has urged Governor Francis Nwifuru to invest more in farming and other agriculture activities while piloting the affairs of the state.
Adonwe, who made the call in Abakaliki, noted that the level of hardship facing the Nigerians demands that the government in power should consider agriculture and industrialization as the mainstream for economic reforms and prosperity of the country nowadays.
He described Ebonyi as a lucky State, but only required the government in power to channel its developmental policies and programs towards agricultural revolution and creation of industries in every part of the state.
Adonwe, the Ebonyi-born legal practitioner and human rights activist, observed: “The state government under the watch of Governor Nwifuru has been implementing the manifesto, it prepared for itself, it’s called the Peoples Charter of Needs agenda.
“The government of Ebonyi State is doing its best, according to its manifesto, but its policies are so far versatile, of which, there’s no justification for the good and bad ones.
“The only observation I have for now is that the government should see the need to look at the rate of unemployment among Ebonyi citizens, especially the youths and consider the establishment of industries in our dear state as a matter of urgency.
“This is because establishing industries in Ebonyi will create more job opportunities for the teeming population who are currently living without jobs.
“Another area the government in power should look at critically is agriculture.
“For instance, we have policies in the Labour Party, assuming we were the one that got the gubernatorial ticket, won the election directly; we have a charter for agricultural revolution, the Yahoo guys would have been turned, agrarian farmers. They would have been in the hinterlands producing foods, championing production instead of embarking on consumption in action.
“I wish to advise the government in power both at the grassroots, state and national levels to expedite action in embarking on all-inclusive agriculture programs for the benefit of humanity.
“Labour Party proposed in its agricultural programs in the way that each of the local government areas would have had enough tractors, agricultural organizations, working as the intermediary to the farmers and government actors in encouraging potential farmers to produce enough foods in our state that can feed not only Nigerians but be one of the sources of food donors and suppliers to the African continent and beyond.”
He urged the Government in power to focus on putting asphalt on the rural and feeder roads, instead of embarking on road dualization for easy movement and transportation of the local products to urban areas for sales and income maximization in the state.
The Labour Party scribe used the opportunity to congratulate his party faithful and supporters as they observed the yuletide and noted that the party officials have been working strategically to build a united front among themselves to claim notable elective positions come 2027.
