AFRD: Kano State Donates N20m To Support Fallen Heroes

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has donated N20m in honor of fallen heroes at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day commemoration.

Governor Yusuf announced the the donations during the launch of the 2025 Emblem Appeal Fund, at the Government House, Kano.

The Governor personally contributed N2m to the fund while the 44 Local Government Areas of the state collectively donated N10 million in support of the cause.

Represented by his Deputy, Abdulsalam Gwarzo, the Governor participated in the wreath-laying ceremony, urging Nigerians to support the Armed Forces and contribute to assisting the families of fallen heroes and retirees.

He described the Armed Forces as the epitome of patriotism, promising that “their sacrifices would not be in vain.”

He commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their selfless service to the nation, despite hostilities.

Governor Yusuf also assured the Armed Forces of the state government’s positive interventions for their families, officers, and men.

He expressed appreciation for the sacrifices of the fallen heroes and acknowledged the contributions of those currently engaged in internal security operations, particularly the ongoing fight against insurgency, terrorism, and armed banditry across the country.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising the security of lives and property in the state, ensuring Kano retains its reputation as one of the most peaceful states in the country.

Governor Yusuf also called on stakeholders to support and actively participate in initiatives by the Nigeria Legion, particularly in areas such as transportation, agriculture, and housing development, to improve the welfare of veterans and their families.

He further urged the people of Kano and Nigerians to procure and wear the emblems with pride to honour those who laid down their lives for the peace and unity of the nation.

The Retired AVM Umaru (rtd) personally donated N300,000 to the fund.

The state Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, Army Warrant Officer (AWO) Kabiru Isyaku, expressed gratitude to all donors and assured them that the funds raised would be utilised judiciously.

The Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy each donated N500,000, while the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services contributed N250,000.

Other donations of N100,000 each were received from the NSCDC, the Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Commandant of the State Taskforce on Phone Snatching and Drug Abuse, Brig. Gen. Gambo Ahmad Mai Adu’a (rtd).

Veterans who attended the laying of wreath thanked God for being alive to celebrate another Armed Forces Remembrance Day and called for lump sum payment of their retirement benefits.
