The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Jamal Abdussalam has charged troops of the 6 Division to continue to put national interest above all in discharging their responsibilities.

A statement by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations of 6 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah said he gave the charge on Thursday at 16 Brigade in Yenagoa while delivering his farewell address to troops.

Major General Abdussalam who heads to the Army Headquarters as Chief of Special Services and Programs in the last posting approved by the Chief of Army Staff, urged the troops to avoid compromise and ensure zero connivance with economic saboteurs in the region.

He called on the troops to remain professional and committed to the realization of the 2.3 million barrel per day (bpd) target set by the Federal Government of Nigeria, which is the benchmark for the national budget.

This, he restated, is achievable given the good work that troops have been doing over time in the region.

He maintained that if the benchmark is achieved, it will be for the benefit and common good of all Nigerians, as the economy will blossom.

The GOC recalled the tremendous effort of troops, which led to an increase in oil output stressing that currently, output has risen to over 1.88 million bpd compared to 1.2 million a year back.

“Thankfully, these achievements couldn’t have been possible without the good work the troops have been doing in the region which has significantly reduced illegal bunkering activities, economic sabotage, and associated criminalities in the region.”

He expressed appreciation for feedback from the general public, attesting to the fact that the atmosphere is cleaner as issues relating to black soot have been reduced in the region, which can be credited to the good work the Nigerian Army is doing.

He charged troops to continue to sustain the trajectory, stating that it was only through collective efforts that the desired end-state would be achieved.

Major General Abdussalam saluted the resilience and commitment of the troops as they toiled through the treacherous terrain in the region to protect critical national assets and infrastructures.

He said as he bowed out as the GOC, he is proud that the troops have put in their best in the service of the motherland. According to General Abdulsalam, posting is a routine in the NA, urging troops to accord the incoming GOC the same cooperation they accorded him to succeed.

He also called on troops to remain disciplined, committed, and professional in discharging their responsibilities to effectively project the positive image of the NA.

The GOC also visited sister Services for his farewell visit. These include Mobility Command of the Nigerian Air Force, where he met the Air Officer Commanding, Air Vice Marshal, Sunday Aneke, Central Naval Command, Nigerian Navy, where he also interacted with the Flag Officer Commanding, Rear Admiral Ahmad Gaya, and Headquarters, Joint Task Force, South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, where he visited the Commander, Joint Task Force, Rear Admiral John Okeke.
