NMA, Oyo Govt partner to eradicate quackery
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Oyo state chapter, has reiterated its commitment to partner with the state government to eradicate quackery in the health sector.
The Chairman of the association, Dr Happy Adedapo, disclosed this in an interview in Ibadan.
Adedapo also said that the association was determined to partner with relevant health stakeholders to ensure total eradication of quackery in the state.
The state government recently threatened to shut down private health facilities caught operating with unqualified personnel in the state.
He lauded the state government’s decision, describing it as a step in the right direction.
According to him, “The Oyo State Government is ‘working the talk,’ because quackery is an evil wind that blows no one any good.
“We believe that empowering the directorate of secondary health care and anti-quackery committee of the government, and ensuring they work in synergy with NMA in the state will be impactful.
“The association is ready to partner and contribute its quota; we will continue to blow the whistles and point out the culprits to the government.
“Stakeholders should synergise to stamp out quackery activities in the state.”
The chairman frowned at the attitude of some highly placed Oyo State residents, whom he said make excuses for some quacks.
“We observed that when the government closes a place over quackery activities, highly placed individuals will call on it to reverse its decision,” he said.
Adedapo urged those involved in such illegal practices to desist with immediate effect because of its consequences to the lives of the people and the society.
