Nigerian Government Launches National Health Fellows Programme

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the National Health Fellows Programme, a year initiative aimed at fostering innovation and leadership in Nigeria’s health sector.

Announcing the initiative in a press released signed by the Deputy Director Information & Public Relation, Alaba Balogun, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, described it as a prestigious opportunity for emerging professionals across various fields to contribute to the transformation of the nation’s health sector.

The programme is being implemented under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative through the SWAp Coordination Office of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

“This programme will bring together a cohort of professionals from health and health-related fields, information technology, and social sciences. They will cultivate the skills needed to drive meaningful change and innovation in the health sector,” Prof. Pate stated.

The programme is open to Nigerian professionals who are passionate about leadership development and sectoral change. Selected fellows will undergo rigorous training and engagement aimed at equipping them with the expertise to tackle challenges in healthcare delivery.

According to the ministry, the National Health Fellows Programme is part of the government’s broader effort to rejuvenate the health sector by leveraging the expertise of dynamic and innovative professionals.

“The initiative underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to advancing healthcare through strategic investments in human capacity development.”

Interested professionals are encouraged to visit https://healthfellows.ng/ to begin their applications. Applicants are advised to review the programme’s eligibility criteria and complete the online process before the deadline of 27th January 2025.

“The application process includes submitting all required details and awaiting feedback. Shortlisted candidates will be notified and provided with instructions on the next steps.”

The Ministry emphasized the importance of ensuring that applications are completed accurately and submitted promptly.

Speaking further, Prof. Pate noted that this programme represents a unique opportunity to groom a new generation of health leaders who will shape the future of Nigeria’s healthcare system.
