Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, embarked on a three-day visit to Kwara State on Tuesday, bringing a wave of excitement to the region.

Upon arriving at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport at 10:45 a.m., she headed straight to the Kwara State University of Education to inaugurate the ICT Community Centre.

This centre, built by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in partnership with the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a foundation of the First Lady, is designed to offer valuable technology training and resources to local communities.

Senator Tinubu also officially launched an ultra-modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Dr. Amuda Aluko Ward—two significant healthcare projects initiated by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

The First Lady’s visit includes several other key events, such as the groundbreaking of the Oluremi Tinubu Hospital and the unveiling of important infrastructure like the Emir Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari Flyover, the Gen. Tunde Idiagbon Flyover, and a tour of the Governor’s other impressive projects, including the Innovation Hub, Visual Arts Centre, and Garment Factory.

Accompanied by the Vice President’s wife, Nana Shettima, and a host of dignitaries including state and federal parliamentarians and First Ladies from across the country, Senator Tinubu was warmly welcomed by Governor Abdulrazaq, his wife, Amb. Olufolake Abdulrazaq, and others.

Speaking at the inauguration of the ICT Centre, Senator Tinubu commended the Governor and his wife for their dedication to the success of the project, which she said would greatly benefit youth and women.

She noted that such ICT centres are helping to break traditional barriers, especially for women and girls, by providing access to crucial skills that open doors to new opportunities. She highlighted that this centre is one of many being rolled out across Nigeria, with other centres set to be commissioned soon in states such as Benue, Oyo, and the Federal Capital Territory.

Governor Abdulrazaq expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the First Lady for their impactful initiative, emphasising the importance of technology in securing a prosperous future.

He also praised the support of the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, and NITDA Director General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, for their roles in making the ICT Centre a reality.

Mrs. Abdulrazaq also spoke, noting that the new ICT Centre is part of broader efforts to support Nigerians in improving their livelihoods, particularly women and youth. She urged the local community to take full advantage of the facility and protect it for future generations, stressing that it is part of a broader mission to build a digitally empowered nation.

Following the inauguration, Senator Tinubu paid a traditional visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, who offered prayers for the First Lady, the President, and Governor Abdulrazaq. The Emir expressed his support for both the President and the Governor, recognising their efforts toward progress.

The First Lady’s visit also included a distribution of food support to vulnerable communities, led by Nana Shettima, under the Renewed Hope Initiative and the ASR Initiative. Governor Abdulrazaq praised this gesture, calling it a significant intervention that would positively impact those in need.

This visit showcased the First Lady’s ongoing commitment to empowering Nigerians, particularly women and youth, and highlighted the crucial role of technology and infrastructure in driving the country’s future development.
