Children’s Day: Nasarawa Speaker advocates end to Child Labour, Out-Of-School Children

The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Balarabe Abdullahi, has advocated for more collaborative efforts to end the number of out-of-school children, child labor, and all other forms of violence against children in the society.

The Speaker also called for the provision of the quality education for children so as to build a brighter future for them and gain a better society for all.

A statement by the Press Secretary to the Speaker, Jibrin Gwamna, indicates that the Speaker made the call in his message to mark this year’s children’s day celebration.

The statement describes children as special gifts from God, hence the need for parents, guardians, and the authority’s concern to ensure that the Nigerian child is given all the necessary support through love, education, and moral training to build an egalitarian society.

The Speaker lamented the growing rate of out-of-school children, child labor, street hawking, and begging as well as all forms of violence against children and emphasized the need for collective responsibilities to tackle the menace.

He also condemned violence against children, calling for all hands to be on deck to address the problem.

“We will continue to make laws that will protect the right of children in the state.

“If parents, stakeholders among other individuals and groups join hands with the government in tackling child abuse, child labor, and violence against children in the country, it would go a long way in promoting peace and societal development” he said.

He has also described education as the best instrument to fight poverty and other societal vices hence the need for parents to give topmost priority to the education of their children as a lasting legacy.

The speaker reiterated the state assembly’s commitment to continue to support any government policies and programs as well as make laws that would protect the right of children and better their lots in the society.
