In a bid to boost economic diversification and industrialisation, Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has called for a strategic partnership between the Ministry’s agencies and the Nigeria Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS).

This collaboration aims to leverage technological advancements and geological expertise to foster sustainable economic growth and development across the nation.

This was said by the Minister during a courtesy visit from the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), which was led by Prof Akinade Olatunji, its president, in the capital of Abuja, Nigeria.

According to the Minister, cooperation must be improved to incorporate cutting-edge technology for the nation’s efficiency, security, and sustainability because mining and geosciences are crucial to industrialisation.

“We are committed to tackling industrial challenges, promoting local value addition and reducing raw material exports, supporting capacity building to drive homegrown solutions and then strengthening regulations for Responsible mining practices,” the Minister said.

He went on to say that to update the industry, data analytics and artificial intelligence must be used to maximise resource management.

“We must use renewable energy to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact as well as Advanced Geological Surveys for improved resource estimation.”

One of the goals of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, according to its president, Prof. Akinade Olatunji, is to foster innovation, generate and maintain the country’s wealth through agriculture, oil and gas, and the extraction of solid minerals for the nation’s economic development.

“We, as a professional geoscientist and mining engineers are core in finding the appropriate minerals needed to drive those technological materials that we all use around now. we are key to finding the oil deposit and assisting the engineers how to extract it in such a successful manner.” Prof Olatunji said.
