Ebonyi State Chapter Inaugurates SWAN Week Committee

The Ebonyi State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), has constituted a 17- man committee to oversee the 2025 SWAN Week.

Members of the committee include; Israel Ekene Mbam, chairman and Cosmas Egba, secretary. Also in the list of members of the committee are Clement Nnachi,  Maria Bisong and Blessing Igidi, among others.

Inaugurating the committee at the Pa Ngele Oruta Stadium, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, the chairman of the association in the state, Ndubuisi Nwogha, charged members to be diligent and dedicated; while ensuring that the association rewrites the story of sports in the state.

He appreciated the Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru and the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Prince Richard Idike, for their supportive roles to SWAN in the state, adding that the association will continue to partner with government to enhance sporting activities in the state.

Nwogha also expressed gratitude to SWAN stakeholders and members of the association in the state for their support during and after the recent election that brought in the new executive.

“I thank the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru and the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Prince Richard Idike for their support to us as a union in the state,” Nwogha said.

“I want to pledge the continued partnership of SWAN with the Ebonyi State Government, to foster sports development in the state. I also thank our members for the peaceful conduct of our recent election. I want to assure them of an inclusive leadership throughout our tenure.”

Nwogha further urged the committee to reach out to all sports lovers across the state and beyond and emphasised that the state Government is passionate about sporting activities in the state and should also continue to be seen as partners in the business of sports.

A former chairman of SWAN in the state, Chukwuemeka Opara, encouraged the committee to seek guidance from stakeholders when necessary. He assured the committee of the support of the stakeholders, to succeed in the assignment.

The chairman of the Committee, Israel Ekene Mbam who was represented by the Secretary, Cosmas Egba, thanked the executive for their trust and assured them of sincerity in reaching out to key sports stakeholders, to ensure a colourful and successful event.

Voice Of Nigeria reports that the week-long event is coming up, barely one month after the election of a new executive of the association in the state.
