The All Progressives Congress (APC) Anambra Central Senatorial District, has officially endorsed the Chairman of United Airlines, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, as their candidate to challenge incumbent Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Anambra State.
This decision was reached during a comprehensive zonal meeting that brought together Professor Okonkwo and key party members, including the State Working Committee (SWC), zonal executives, local government chapter chairs, vice chairs, secretaries, and leaders representing women and youth from across the district.
Party leaders unanimously expressed their confidence in Professor Okonkwo’s qualifications, highlighting his notable achievements in business, academia, and economic management, most notably through his successful leadership of United Airlines and other ventures.
They believe that his extensive private sector experience equips him uniquely to tackle the pressing development challenges faced by Anambra State.
Following the meeting, a senior party official remarked that the decision to support Professor Okonkwo was not made lightly but rather through careful consideration of the party’s prospects in the upcoming election.
“Professor Okonkwo combines academic excellence, business acumen, and practical leadership skills that we trust will resonate with the electorate in Anambra,” the official stated.
The APC leadership cited several compelling reasons for endorsing Okonkwo’s candidacy. His proven track record of job creation, particularly in the aviation industry, underscores his capacity to drive economic growth in Anambra State.
They believe his proficiency in managing large-scale operations and his deep understanding of both local and global business environments will be vital in attracting investment to the state.
Additionally, the leadership recalled Professor Okonkwo’s significant roles in the formation and early successes of the Action Congress (AC), one of the founding parties of today’s APC.
The resolution document notably emphasised Okonkwo’s potential to effectively challenge Governor Soludo, with many party leaders expressing concerns about growing dissatisfaction with the current administration’s policies.
They conveyed confidence in Okonkwo’s ability to present a viable alternative vision for the state’s future.
“Our decision today reflects the collective wisdom of party leaders across Anambra Central,” stated one zonal executive.
“We believe Professor Okonkwo possesses the strategic vision and executive capacity necessary not only to win the election but also to implement transformative policies that will benefit all Anambra citizens.”

The meeting underscored the importance of party unity in supporting Okonkwo’s candidacy. Local government chapter chairs committed to launching immediate grassroots mobilisation efforts, while women and youth leaders outlined plans to engage their respective demographics to foster support for his gubernatorial bid.
