The troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully dismantled a notorious bandit camp in Taraba State.
According to Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director, 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, the operation, which took place on February 2, 2025, in Angwan Bala, Kambari general area of Karim Lamido Local Government Area, resulted in the neutralization of one bandit and the surrender of 23 others, including 19 males and 4 females.
Captain Oni stated that the troops acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected bandits and conducted a fighting patrol to the identified hideout.
The bandits opened fire on sighting the patrol team, prompting an immediate and overwhelming response from the troops.
A comprehensive search of the camp led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including:
“_4 AK-47 rifles
_5 AK-47 rifle magazines
_80 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
_1 English-made pistol
_2 locally made guns
_28 cutlasses
_16 motorcycles
_48 daggers and jack knives.”
Captain Oni disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that the bandits, originally from Plateau State, had paid a local chief in Amar village ₦1.5 million to acquire and establish their camp in the area.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their bravery and reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to the security and stability of Taraba State and its environs.
He emphasized the importance of community cooperation in the fight against banditry and other forms of criminality.
